As many who have been reading will have heard, I’ve been having a lot of trouble lately with sub-dermal acne. It’s sprung up slowly over the past couple years but lately it’s been really beginning to bug me due to a gradual buildup of acne scars. (Thank goodness for the camouflage effect of freckles!)
A few weeks ago I found a pretty good organic facial scrub at Lush, and I’ve been using it every time I shower on a regular basis. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still my favourite daily cleanser, but right now with it being hay season, summer break for The Little, and with the big conference coming up I’m in need some heavy duty backup! I did a quick search and was fairly surprised when one of the top hits to continuously come up was a homemade honey cinnamon face mask.
Recipe: 2 Parts Honey, 1 Part Cinnamon.
As it turns out honey is great at pulling out dead skin & microbes from your pores, and the cinnamon acts as a great natural exfoliator. Both are naturally antiseptic & antibacterial which makes them perfect to help eliminate ‘The Gross’. I mixed 2 tbsp. of honey with 1 tbsp. of cinnamon, and left it in a small jar on my bathroom counter for routine use, best part is it can be left out at room temperature and not go bad!
Over the course of a week I used it three time, and Miss. B insisted on a turn as well. I have to say, I really like it and have seen a difference in my skin that I didn’t see when I tried out the Lush mask, or the exfoliator from Clarin’s. Some sites recommended not using the honey mask more than once a week but I’ve been going on 3 uses this week and despite having sensitive skin I’ve had no irritation. It’s really helped dry out the blemishes, without dehydrating the rest of my face. I’ve also seen a couple other variations of the recipe, one that that includes Baking Soda, and another Aspirin that I would also like to try, specifically for this one spot that won’t go away!
T-Minus 5 Days! Time to crack down on this skin of mine!
